Staff Reporter: The market rate is unbridled. Even with the festival over, there is no sign of a reduction in the prices of any commodity in the market, starting from anajpati. Therefore, the state government has taken the initiative to take strict measures to control the prices of goods. State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called a meeting in Navanna on November 14. At 4 pm on that day, the concerned ministers and top officials of the state administration were called to this meeting.

According to sources, Agriculture Minister Shobhandev Chattopadhyay, Horticulture Minister Subrata Saha, Agriculture Marketing Minister Becharam Manna, Fisheries Minister Akhil Giri, Livestock Development Minister Swapan Debnath have been asked to attend the meeting. The secretaries and top level officials of the concerned departments will also be present in the meeting. A verbal instruction has been sent from the chief minister’s office to the ministers and officials to attend the meeting. Police officers have also been called in the meeting. Apart from the top officers of various commissionerates, other officers of the state police will also be absent.

Winter has started to fall in the state. When winter comes, the supply of vegetables in the market increases. As a result, the prices of all kinds of vegetables are supposed to decrease a lot this time. So far, the price of vegetables in the market is not showing any signs of reduction. Cauliflower, the only winter vegetable, is still not available in the markets of various districts, including Kolkata, at prices as low as Tk. 25-30 per piece. The price of potato stands at Tk 30 per kg. The Chief Minister will investigate why this market situation in the meeting. And will instruct the Ministers and Secretaries of the concerned departments regarding the necessary steps.

Recently, the price of eggs has increased in the retail market. In a flash, the price of eggs increased by one rupee and stood at 6 rupees 50 paise. But West Bengal Livestock Corporation under the state is selling eggs at Rs. The state is unable to find any reason why the price of eggs suddenly increased in the retail market. The price of fish and meat has also increased. On the occasion of festival, the price of mutton goes up a lot. Now the price is about to drop.
