Mumbai: The project to build a new Mahabaleshwar next to Mahabaleshwar in Satara district, which is famous as a place of cool air, has gained momentum. The work of preparing the development plan in this regard has started and the plan will be completed in three years.

Major giristhans in the state include Mahabaleshwar, Pachagani, Matheran, Lonavala, Khandala etc. Mahabaleshwar is very popular among tourists. The crowd of tourists here is increasing. There was a need to develop a new Giristhana to reduce the stress on this place. It has been decided to build a new Mahabaleshwar on an area of ​​about 37 thousand hectares in the area of ​​Koyna back water. It is proposed to construct Mahabaleshwar in 52 villages of three taluks namely Patan, Jawli and Satara in Satara district. It will extend in the area from Karad Chiplun road in Patan taluk to Kasbe Bamanoli and Savari village in Jawli valley.

The area is situated at an altitude of about 1200 meters above sea level on the north-south side of the Sahyadri hills. Tributaries such as Solshi, Urmodi, Kandati flow through this area. Due to this, the area is green and picturesque. At the same time, dense forests, wildlife, waterfalls, lakes, and historical buildings have been gifted. As a result it is perfect for development as a Giristhan.

Will survey

The state government appointed Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) as the special planning authority for this project in 2019. The work of preparing the development plan of this project was to start this year; However, due to the outbreak of Corona, the work of the project was stopped for three years. Now there are signs of him gaining speed again. MSRDC will undertake the work of preparing the land use map of this area within a month. It will be completed based on drone and GI survey. The process of preparing the development plan of Mahabaleshwar has been started. MSRDC Managing Director Radheshyam Mopalwar informed that it will take the next three years for the approval of the plan after completing the legal process.

Employment for locals through tourism

There are many historical places in the vicinity of New Mahabaleshwar. Tourist spots and historical places in 52 villages will be identified and developed. It will attract tourists and history lovers to this area. Tourist facilities and existing road network will be improved. Resort and agri-tourism will be developed. Locals will get employment from this. At the same time, the biodiversity of this ecologically sensitive area will be protected. Also, this development will be done without disturbing the ecologically sensitive area, informed the officials.
