Mid Ulster Council: Dungannon DUP adviser says he ‘will not apologize to GAA’ATN News

At the monthly council meeting on Thursday, Sept. 22, Councilor Clement Cuthbertson was invited to apologize for a remark he made on social media in August, citing “the GAA continues to worship terrorists convicted of ‘controversy.” wrong”

His comments relate to the Francie Hughes Memorial Tournament for children seven and a half and under. The tournament was named after highly regarded former Coalisland president Na Fianna, who was named alongside the hungry IRA striker in 1981.

SDLP’s head, councilor Malachy Quinn, told the council that the comments and the lack of an apology caused much anger in Coalisland, and said the remarks “Damage the council’s reputation”

Cllr Quinn said, “There is a lot of anger about these comments. and more for the fact that he hasn’t apologized to them yet,” said Cllr Quinn.

“He attacked the people who attended the event and the teams that participated. It wasn’t just one incident and I got a lot of phone calls expressing my anger that day.

“In my opinion It discredited the council. Since this is the council members attacking the local GAA work, simple research. Shows that it’s not what he claims. And I think it’s appropriate for the council members to apologize for those words.”

In response, Cllr Cuthbertson said he would not apologize and referenced an image from two years ago shared on social media that appeared to show people at Dungannon Thomas Carke’s GAC violating social distancing guidelines for the time being. and was accused of using sectarian language

“I will not apologize to the GAA. The GAA continually praises terrorists. It should have been in the last few years or 100 years ago,” Cllr Cuthbertson said.
