Michigan man shoots ex's new boyfriend while delivering Christmas gifts for kids, claims police

On Christmas Day, a Michigan father is accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend’s new partner while delivering gifts to his children.

Deandre Patrick Lawrence, 23, of Detroit, went to his ex-girlfriend’s house on Monday, Dec. 25, to bring gifts to his three children, according to police. According to authorities, the woman’s live-in boyfriend was at the residence when the two males got into a physical altercation.

According to authorities, the boyfriend fled the house but tripped and collapsed on the ground. Prosecutors said Lawrence pursued him and shot him twice in the back as he was lying on the ground.

Lawrence is charged with murderous assault (a life felony) and a felony firearm offense.

He was arrested Wednesday in Warren’s 37th District Court and issued a $1 million cash/surety bond. If he is released, he is not permitted to contact the victim or witnesses.

A probable cause conference is set for 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 4, followed by a preliminary examination on Jan. 11.
