A man appeared in court on charges of raping a woman in Bolton last weekend.
Police were contacted while patrolling the city center early on Saturday morning by a afflicted woman.
She told officials she had been the victim of serious sexual harassment.
The incident reportedly took place near Bradshawgate.
Police investigated and arrested four men earlier this week.
Three have been bailed. and further investigation is underway.
But Prashant Gurung was charged with raping a woman on September 17 and appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates court on Thursday.
Bolton, a 20-year-old from Manchester Road, made no claims.
The case was sent to Manchester Crown Court, where he will appear next month.
Gurung was imprisoned until his next appearance.
Detective Inspector Stewart Woodhead, GMP Bolton’s CID, said after the incident. Action needs to be taken to keep the city center like Bolton safe.
He said: “We are grateful that the woman felt able to approach officers and have quick access to expert assistance while the preliminary investigation was completed. We are continuing to work with her and collect the necessary evidence.
“The Greater Manchester Police are taking specific actions that regulate the nighttime economy in our city center and city centre, including Bolton.
“This will continue for the next few days and weeks.
