LHC orders return of passport of Maryam Nawaz The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday ordered the return of the passport of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz.

A 3-judge bench headed by the LHC Chief Justice began hearing the petition filed by Maryam Nawaz seeking the return of her passport today.

In the petition, the PML-N leader has taken the position that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has not filed the Chaudhry sugar mill reference for 4 years and hence the court should order the registrar’s office to return his passport.

In the last hearing, a three-judge bench sought responses from the respondents, while NAB decided not to oppose Maryam’s plea for the return of the passport.

Meanwhile, the LHC accepted Maryam’s plea and ordered the surrender of her passport in today’s hearing.

The development comes days after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) quashed Maryam’s conviction in the Avenfield case.

Notably, Maryam Nawaz surrendered her passport to the court in 2019 to get bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.

Responding to the LHC’s order, Maryam Nawaz said her passport was impounded for three years even though there was no case to begin with.

Criticizing the previous PTI-led government, the PML-N leader said he was being illegally detained for ‘investigation’ because he was afraid of his public rallies.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz said on Monday that her passport had been returned to her.
