India reported 1,968 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in 133 days, taking the tally to 4,45,99,466, while active cases fell to 34,598, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

The death toll rose to 5,28,716 with 15 more deaths, including eight deaths reconciled by Kerala, data updated by the ministry at 8 am showed.

A total of 1,675 cases were registered in 24 hours on May 23.

Active cases comprise 0.08 percent of total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.74 percent, the health ministry said.

It said the number of active Covid-19 cases decreased by 1,528 cases in 24 hours.

Daily positive rate was recorded at 0.94 percent and weekly positive rate was 1.29 percent, the ministry said.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease has risen to 4,40,36,152. The case fatality rate was 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, 218.80 crore worth of coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.

India’s Covid-19 count crossed 20 lakh on 7 August 2020, 30 lakh on 23 August, 40 lakh on 5 September and 50 lakh on 16 September. It crossed 60 lakhs on 28th September and 70 lakhs on 11th October. It crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and crossed one crore on December 19, 2020. The country crossed the grim milestone of two crore cases on May 4, 2021, three crore cases on June 23 and four crore. Cases on January 25 this year.

The seven deaths reported in the last 24 hours include two from Odisha and one each from Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka and West Bengal.
