Tapan Baksi, Mumbai: Singer Kumar Shanu started Durga Puja for the first time like other Bengali celebrities in Mumbai.
The main Durga Mandap, lifestyle and food stalls, and separate spaces for music events have been chosen over an area of about 15,000 square feet in the grounds of the Versova Welfare Grounds west of Andheri in the north Mumbai suburb.
The main Durgamandap is made in the style of rural Bengal. Uttam Sarkar of Bagula in Nadia district of West Bengal is in charge of the industrial direction for making the mandap. He along with his assistants built this Mandap here 15 days before Durga Puja.
The Governor of Maharashtra inaugurated the Durga Puja of Kumar Shanu on the sixth day. After the inauguration, singer Shanu welcomed Maa Durga by lighting five lamps. Not in any western clothes, Kumar Shanu joined the puja of Maa Durga wearing Bengali’s eternal pajama-Punjabi. On the day of Saptami, in white pajama-punjabi, Kumar Shanu performed Aarti with his own hands to Mother Durga. Immediately those pictures were caught on camera.
