Jaipur: The interesting incident took place during the felicitation meeting of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar in the Rajasthan Assembly. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot jokingly asked Jagdeep Dhankar what magic he did on Mamata Banerjee during the vice-presidential polls in August this year to keep the Trinamool Congress out of the polls. Gehlot recalled that during the three years of Dhankar’s governorship, his differences with Mamata were the talk of the town. Gehlot asked Dhankar how the Trinamool Congress could keep away the unyielding Mamata Banerjee in the vice-presidential polls. They want to tell a secret. Everyone, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, laughed at Gelot’s words.

Responding to Gehlot’s question, Dhankar said that he is beyond politics. But politicians know when, why and what decisions to make. Dhankar joked that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Leader of Opposition Vasundhara Raje should investigate why the Trinamool Congress abstained from the vice-presidential election. Dhankar recalled that he once took Vasundhara Raje’s advice to build a good rapport with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee when he was the Governor of West Bengal.

When Jagdeep Dhankar was the Governor of West Bengal, there were daily reports in the media about his differences with Mamata. There were also stories of fights breaking out. Mamata Banerjee has forgotten all the old feuds after announcing Jagdeep Dhankar as NDA’s vice-presidential candidate. Trinamool Congress MPs abstained after Mamata announced that she would abstain from voting in the vice-presidential election. Another sensational decision taken by Mamata was reported in the media that day. Political observers believe that Mamata took this decision as a sign of respect as the person who served as the governor of her state is the vice-presidential candidate.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is not in the NDA, has announced his support to former Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind as the presidential candidate. In the same vein, Mamata Banerjee also put aside all political differences and supported Jagdeep Dhankar, the governor of her state, when he was announced as the vice-presidential candidate. This shows political maturity.
