On the one year anniversary of the tragic accident that took place in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3 last year, farmers have held protests at many places across the country. Under the leadership of the United Kisan Morcha, which has been campaigning against the Agrarian Acts, farmers have staged protests at several places in Uttar Pradesh including Lakhimpur, Farrukhabad, Azamgarh, Bulandshahr.

In the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, farmers were run over by vehicles. A total of 8 people died in this incident, out of which 4 were farmers. Along with the farmers, three BJP workers Shubham Mishra, Shyam Sundar Nishad and Hari Om Mishra were killed by the mob. A journalist also died in this incident.

Farmer leader Rakesh Tiket has said that even after a year of this incident, the victims have not received justice. On Monday, he met the families of the victims. A program was organized on the occasion of the anniversary at the Kadiala Ghat Gurdwara in Takonia, Lakhimpur Kheri.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the Congress supports all the demands of the United Kisan Morcha, including the guarantee of minimum support price.

Demand for Tenney’s removal

The SIT formed to investigate the Lakhimpur Kheri case had said that the incident was a deliberate conspiracy to kill the farmers. In this case, after the pressure of the Supreme Court, the farmers and the opposition, Ashish Mishra, the main accused in this case, was arrested by the police. But Ajay Mishra was not removed from the cabinet even after farmers and the opposition raised their voices demanding the dismissal of Ashish Mishra’s father and Union minister Ajay Mishra Tenni from the Modi cabinet.

A few months ago, the farmers staged a sit-in for 75 hours in Lakhimpur Kheri for this demand. Farmers have been demanding Tenney’s removal from the cabinet since October last year.

The police had submitted a 5000-page charge sheet in the court in this case. The police named Ashish Mishra as the main accused in the charge sheet. Ashish Mishra was arrested on October 9 last year in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Ashish was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench in February this year, but the Supreme Court rejected his bail.

Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni was constantly saying that his son was not there at the time of the incident and was at the scene of the riot. Ashish Mishra had also said that he was not present on the occasion. But the charge sheet said that Ashish Mishra was present at the spot and had opened fire.

Let us know that the United Kisan Morcha had protested strongly on all the borders of Delhi against the Agrarian Acts. Meanwhile, a large number of farmers were sitting on the Ghazipur, Singho and Tikri borders for almost a year. In November last year, the central government withdrew the agricultural laws in five states, including Uttar Pradesh, due to the possibility of political damage due to farmers’ protests.
