Authorities have identified a married couple discovered dead in a vehicle near Campo on Tuesday, days after family members reported them missing.
On Thursday, Lt. Steve Shebloski of the San Diego Police Department verified that the deceased were 52-year-old Johnny Soto and 45-year-old Melissa Soto, both of San Ysidro.
The couple was discovered in the parking lot of the Golden Acorn Casino, located at 1800 Golden Acorn Way. The scene was investigated by detectives from the SDPD’s Southern Division and the Homicide Unit.
The precise nature of what happened and why they went missing is still being investigated. Authorities suspect the individual died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, based on early information.
At this point, it has been determined that the woman died as a result of strangling. Her death has been ruled a homicide, with her husband named as the sole suspect, according to authorities.
According to SDPD, this alleged murder-suicide “appears to be a tragic case of domestic violence.”
Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
