ISLAMABAD: Chairman of National Database and Registration Authority says that according to NADRA records, 500 officers currently working in various government departments have dual citizenship. Briefing the Public Accounts Committee, he said that several officers with dual citizenship have submitted applications to NADRA to renounce their Pakistani citizenship. The committee has sought a list of all government officials with dual citizenship.
In the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee held on Wednesday, the issue of government officials with dual citizenship was considered. After the disclosure by Chairman NADRA, the Public Accounts Committee responded that it is a sensitive matter and the appointment of dual-citizen officers to important posts is a momentous matter.
Chairman Committee said that if DG Nadra Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has dual citizenship, then this posting in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near Afghanistan is a sensitive issue. The committee directed that some Afghan refugees are making Pakistani identity cards, they should be monitored. Chairman Public Accounts Committee has also issued instructions for the removal of DG Nadra Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
